Q Train Riders Could Be Traveling On The Second Avenue Line As Early As December

Anyone who gets out of of the Q train at Dekalb Avenue/Flatbush Avenue is instantly immersed in the tremendous change sweeping the neighborhood, but soon that change will extend to the Q itself.

The MTA expects to complete the first phase of the long-anticipates Second Avenue Subway line by December, which means the Q train will be turning north at 63rd Street to travel up the freshly-laid track to 96th Street, instead of heading into Queens.

There is still skepticism the MTA can make good on its deadline. So to prove they’re serious, the agency released a revised subway map showing the changes.

Q train service to Queens will be replaced by bringing back the W train, which will run from the Ditmars Boulevard stop to Whitehall Street starting in November. In the interim between the W train’s revival and the completion of the Second Avenue Subway, the Q train will stop at 57th Street, according to the MTA.

The revamped Q service might not seem like a major change, but it will make life easier for trips to the Upper East Side, while the comeback of the W will alleviate some of the hassle of shlepping Astoria. Then again, you can always just take the G train to Court Square and then go for a quick stroll from Court Square to Queensboro Plaza. If the G train is running, anyway.
