Pure Barre, a fitness studio chain focused on the trend of using a ballet barre in a workout, held its grand opening over the weekend at 178 5th Avenue, between Sackett and Degraw, in the space that was most recently home to Guvnor’s, the vintage shop that closed last year.

According to its site, workouts “utilize the ballet barre to perform small isometric movements set to fantastic music.” There are franchise locations around the country, including two others in Brooklyn — in Cobble Hill and Williamsburg — and two in Manhattan.

The 5th Avenue spot is currently running a deal for new clients — for a limited time, you can pay $150 for six weeks of unlimited classes, and the six weeks begin when you attend your first class, which you’ll have a year to do. Plus, you can attend classes at either the Park Slope or Cobble Hill locations.

They have a schedule of classes throughout the week, as early as 6am on some weekdays and 9am on weekends, and as late as 8pm on weekdays, but just through noon on weekends.

Reviews of the Cobble Hill space on Yelp are pretty consistent on their pros and cons — namely that it’s a clean, nice place for a class, but that those classes tend to lack variety and after the initial deal, prices are very high. Has anyone taken classes at one of these studios, or have you already checked out this new space? What did you think?
