Prospect Park’s Lakeside To Open Before Christmas
As we first reported back in May, Prospect Park‘s completed $74 million Lakeside project is set to open in December–and now, NY1 has a closer look at where construction currently stands.
Lakeside–which includes green roofs that expand park space, a new, covered ice skating rink in addition to Wollman Rink, restorations to Music and Whisper Islands, a cafe, and more–will open acres of parkland to the public year-round, says NY1, starting before December 25.
In the summer months, the ice rinks will become a roller skating rink and water park for kids. In the winter, park patrons can skate recreationally or take lessons with Brooklyn Blades. Both rinks can be combined into one with the removal of a wall.
Details have been restored in accordance with Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmsted’s original plans, including overhauling the lake’s shoreline, and buildings at Lakeside have been made of granite to match walls around the park. Railings found in the lake during construction have been replicated around the lake’s perimeter, and an old water fountain is finding a home in the project, too.
Lakeside has not finalized its hours of operation or pricing yet, but we can’t wait to check out the complex when it opens.
