Prospect Park Lost 319 Trees in Hurricane Sandy

Prospect Park lost 319 trees, reports WNYC, including over 50 that were over 150 years old. The Prospect Park Alliance was on sight with other city agencies surveying the issues when the above video was taken, showing some of the damage done. While the trees lost and the playgrounds destroyed in the park are far from the most pressing issues even a week after the storm, the destruction illustrates just how powerful Sandy was.

The volunteer clean-up crew was 180-strong when the video was filmed but it will take months to complete the clean up and many more years for the park’s tree population to return to its former strength.
