Problems With Unplowed Roads Today? Let Us Know!

Thankfully, it looks like this morning’s snow is over, but neighbors were not happy with unplowed roads that left many of us with long commutes and slippery conditions on our neighborhood streets.

In the KensingtonBK Facebook group, one neighbor wrote that it took them two hours to drop their son off at school in Coney Island – the trip, both ways, normally takes about an hour.

“Ocean Parkway is an unplowed disaster,” the neighbor wrote. “Same for McDonald Avenue and Caton Avenue. The roads are slick and dangerous. What gives? It’s not like these are side roads. Called 311 to report and was told the snow plows are out and working… I did not see a single snow plow out there.”

When we called the Department of Sanitation about this just before noon, a communications representative told us that plows still had not gotten to that area but they were “recording in the system that the area needs attention.”

When we tried to look up more information about area roads being plowed, we noticed that the city’s PlowNYC map was down. According to the website, they are “experiencing technical difficulties” and say that “DSNY has all salt spreaders out. Plows will be used where needed.”

Additionally, the city announced this morning that alternate side parking regulations have been suspended to allow for snow removal.
