Signal Problems Cause Chaos, Delays On D & N Trains

D train power outage

Lots of neighbors were late to work this morning due to an incident on the D train.

At approximately 8:30am, the conductor told passengers to exit the train at 9th Avenue, take the southbound D, and transfer to the N due to a power outage.

Chaos and confusion ensued, according to one tipster.

“Everybody was in a panic because the trains didn’t even reach 36th Street,” said neighbor Carmen Tamacas, whose husband takes the D to work every morning. ” My husband had to get out and take a cab to work.”

We reached out to the MTA for more information and have not yet received a response, but the transit company confirmed on Twitter at 8:57am that D and N train service has resumed with residual delays:

As of a 9:24am, commuters were still waiting for their trains to arrive.

We will update this post as we know more.

Update [10:19am]: MTA Spokesperson Kevin Ortiz said the problem was not a power outage but signal problems and that trains have resumed with delays.

“We had some signal trouble around 6:45am where some D trains ran over the N to Coney Island,” he said. “Everything has been back for a while.”

Update [12:15pm]: We are getting some more conflicting updates about the reasons for these delays. A tweet from NYCT Subway claims there are also signal problems at Grand Street:

Gothamist suggests that a massive sinkhole in Sunset Park is causing delays on the N train this morning.

Update [12:22pm]: A spokesperson for the MTA confirmed that trains were running at slow speeds this morning due to the sinkhole in Sunset Park.
