The NYPD are currently investigating an incident following an officer’s shooting of an armed man on Rochester Avenue in Crown Heights early Friday morning.

Three members of the NYPD Brooklyn North Gang unit were patrolling the vicinity of St. Johns Place and Rochester Avenue at approximately 1:30am this morning, the police report. The officers were in plain clothes and were traveling in an unmarked vehicle.

After hearing several shots fired a block away, between Park and Sterling Place, the officers went to investigate and saw a man with a gun in his hand chasing another male individual, according to the NYPD. The two were running south on Rochester toward the officers.

The officers then saw the armed male fire at the person he was pursuing. The officers exited their vehicle and told the suspect to drop his firearm, but were ignored, police say.

One of the officers then shot at the suspect, firing at least twice and hitting him once in the left thigh. The suspect continued to run south down Rochester before dropping his gun and collapsing in front of 1525 Saint John’s Place where the officers apprehended him, according to police. He was taken to Brookdale Hospital for medical treatment.

None of the officers were injured during the incident but were taken to Cobble Hill Hospital for observation.

A black .25 caliber hand gun was recovered at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
