Police Seek Driver Who Struck Pedestrian In Hit And Run On Atlantic Avenue
A pedestrian was struck and critically injured in a hit and run incident early Saturday morning, police say.
The incident took place at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and 4th Avenue on Saturday, October 8 at approximately 3:17am. Cops say a man was crossing Atlantic Avenue within the crosswalk when he was struck by a black four-door sedan which was traveling eastbound on Atlantic Avenue.
After striking the pedestrian, the driver fled the location in his sedan. Police have released a photo of the fleeing sedan at the intersection of Atlantic and Flatbush Avenues.
An ambulance transported the pedestrian to Methodist Hospital after suffering head trauma. He was in critical condition after being brought to the hospital. An update concerning his status is not yet available.
Cops say no arrests have been made and the investigation is still ongoing.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by texting your tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577. Police say all calls are confidential.
The intersection where the hit and run took place is in the immediate vicinity of five fatalities and hundreds of serious injuries in the last eight years.
A New York City Department of Transportation comprehensive plan for the Flatbush Avenue/Atlantic Avenue area was presented to the public in early August, including several proposals for changes around Times Plaza, the triangle created by the intersections of Flatbush, Atlantic and Fourth Avenues.
