Police Blotter: Locked Rides, Wild Rides & (No) Subway Rides

While robbery and felony assault are the most prevalent crimes in our precinct’s most recent CompStat report (covering the end of June), incidents on our first July blotter, based on reports gathered from the 70th Precinct, include misdemeanor assaults and criminal mischief.

“Crack”ing the case (but not the car door)

Police arrested a 50-year-old man they say was attempting to break into a car on E 21st St. at about 4:40am on July 2. According to cops, the early riser was carrying a crack pipe in addition to burglary tools. He was arrested for criminal mischief.

Cab rider returns the favor with impromptu piggyback

An E 16th St. man got the ride of his life July 3 when a late-night argument over car fare ended with the cab driver jumping on his back, police report. The altercation, which police say took place at about 11:50pm, left the 33-year-old passenger with scratches on his right arm and hand. Police canvassed the area, but note they have not yet made an arrest.

Hope their MetroCards are unlimited

Police report they were led on a foot chase by a 23-year-old man and 31-year-old woman the evening of July 6, after the suspects assaulted a 20-year-old woman in an apartment on E 19th St. The offenders reportedly pulled the victims hair and punched her in the face and body, injuring her eye. Upon canvassing the area and spotting the perps waiting for the subway, cops say the male suspect dashed off (no word on whether he was simply tired of waiting forever on a packed platform). Both perpetrators were caught and arrested.
