Playtime In Park Slope: Upcoming Children’s Events

Looking for something fun to do with the whole family this week? From the Wizard of Oz live and a festival with puppets, to singalongs and an appreciation of trees, there are a lot of great kid-friendly events coming up in our area. See the full details below!

Babies & Books
When: Wednesday, April 22, 10am
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Kids ages birth to 18 months and their guardians can enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes.
How much: Free, but you must pick up a ticket the morning of the program at the Children’s reference desk.

Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, April 22, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score your ticket.

Folk Sing-A-Long With Katy Stone
When: Wednesday, April 22, 11:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: After Rock With Adam wraps up, the library is getting folksy with Katy Stone. Geared toward children up to age 5.
How much: Free, but tickets are required, so be sure to arrive to the library early and secure your spot.

Nature Exploration
When: Thursdays & Fridays, 12-4pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Families can enjoy a variety of activities, from games for bird nerds to Citizen Science projects to a chance to meet a resident snake.
How much: Free!

Story Craft
When: Thursday, April 23, 3:30pm
Where: Pacific Library, 25 4th Avenue
What: Kids up to age 5 are welcome to hear a story, then make a craft inspired by it.
How much: Free!

Storytime
When: Friday, April 24, 10am
Where: Postmark Cafe, 326 6th Avenue
What: A weekly storytime has returned to Postmark! Stop by every Friday for some free fun.
How much: Free, but there’s only space for 20 kids, so arrive early to ensure your spot.

Arbor Day
When: Friday, April 24, 1-4pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Learn about the trees in our big backyard! Decorate a “nature curtain,” learn to identify different trees, and more.
How much: Free!

Nature Exploration
When: Saturdays & Sundays, 10am-1pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Much like on the weekdays, families can enjoy a variety of activities, including bird watching, nature-based projects, and more.
How much: Free!

Pop-Up Audubon
When: Saturdays & Sundays, 10am-1pm
Where: Eastwood, Prospect Park
What: Families will learn the secrets of soil creatures, fungus, and decomposition through fun games and experiments.
How much: Free!

Pop-Up Audubon II
When: Saturdays & Sundays, 11am-4pm
Where: Peninsula, Prospect Park
What: This month, families can learn about birds and other animals that make their home near water, and add to the “nest” the park is weaving with natural materials.
How much: Free!

Park Slope Family Festival
When: Saturday, April 25, 11am-3pm
Where: JJ Byrne Playground, 5th Avenue at 4th Street
What: Meet Star Wars characters and puppets, hear live music, see juggling shows, and more. Plus, there will be free goodie bags for the first 200 kids!
How much: Free, though some activities carry a small fee.

The Wizard Of Oz
When: Saturday, April 25, 1pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Enjoy the classic tale of Dorothy and her trip down the Yellow Brick Road in this live production.
How much: Free!

Spring Sprouts
When: Sunday, April 26, 2-4pm
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: Spring has sprung and it’s time to plant some flowers! Kids will get to make a small pot out of newspaper, fill it with soil, and plant an herb seed to take home.
How much: $3 suggested donation.
