Playtime In Park Slope: Upcoming Children’s Events

Looking for something fun to do with the whole family this week? From crafting to celebrate Black History Month, to a storytime about a T. Rex, to super fun sing-alongs, there are a lot of great kid-friendly events coming up in our area:

Babies & Books
When: Wednesday, February 25, 10am
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Kids ages birth to 18 months and their guardians can enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes.
How much: Free, but you must pick up a ticket the morning of the program at the Children’s reference desk.

Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, February 25, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score yours.

Folk Sing-A-Long With Katy Stone
When: Wednesday, February 25, 11:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: After Rock With Adam wraps up, the library is getting folksy with Katy Stone. Geared toward children through age 5. As with the above performance, note that tickets are required, so be sure to arrive to the library early and secure your spot.
How much: Free, but tickets are required and will be given out a half hour before the start of the program at the reference desk.

South African Storytelling And Mask Making
When: Thursday, February 26, 4pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Kids ages 5 and up are invited to watch a performance of King Lion’s Gifts, Nelson Mandela’s favorite story, and then get crafty by making masks of the South African animals presented in the tale.
How much: Free!

Kente Cloth Craft Program
When: Friday, February 27, 3:30pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Kids in grade K-6 can celebrate Black History Month in this craft program where they’ll make Kente Cloth crafts based on the book, The Spider Weaver: A Legend of Kente Cloth by Margaret Musgrove.
How much: Free!

Explore & Create: Arts And Crafts
When: Friday, February 27, 3:30pm
Where: Pacific Library, 25 4th Avenue
What: A weekly, free drop-in program where kids and teens can roll up their sleeves and explore their artistic side.
How much: Free!

Story Play
When: Saturday, February 28, 10am
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Children from birth to age five and their caregivers are invited to hear a story and play with toys.
How much: Free!

Storytime With Author Steven Weinberg
When: Saturday, February 28, 11am
Where: Community Bookstore, 143 7th Avenue
What: Kids ages 4 and up can hang with illustrator and writer Steven Weinberg as he reads his newest storybook, Rex Finds an Egg! Egg! Egg!, about a rambunctious T. Rex who journeys across the prehistoric landscape to save the thing he loves most.
How much: Free!

Journey Into Africa
When: Saturday, February 28, 1pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Travel from Senagal to Soweto as three performers present — and get the audience involved in — traditional rhythms, songs, instruments, and dances that are an integral part of everyday African life.
How much: Free!

Nature Playtime: Zoo
When: Sunday, March 1, 10:30am-12:30pm
Where: Prospect Park Zoo, 450 Flatbush Avenue
What: The Prospect Park Alliance, Prospect Park Zoo, and Tinkergarten are teaming up (with a little help from the Disney Conservation Fund) to bring families creative play opportunities in the park’s natural areas. Every Sunday through April, those visiting the Prospect Park Zoo will be able to take part in Nature Playtime! in the native plant garden.
