Playtime In Park Slope: Upcoming Children’s Events

Looking for something fun to do with the whole family this week? From a bedtime story hour with a free book at the end, Chanukah celebrations, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and more, there are a lot of great kid-friendly events coming up in our area:

Brooklyn’s Largest Menorah Lighting
When: Tuesday, December 16, 6pm
Where: Grand Army Plaza
What: Hanukkah starts this week, so be sure to head over to Grand Army Plaza for the giant menorah lighting. December 16-18, the lighting will take place at 6pm, December 19 at 3:30pm, December 20 at 7pm, and December 21-23 at 6pm. In addition to the menorah, there will be live music, dreidels, doughnuts, latkes, and prizes for the kids.
How much: Free.

Kings Bay Y Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, December 17, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score yours.

Holiday Party
When: Thursday, December 18, 9am-12pm
Where: Juguemos a Cantar, 47 Sterling Place
What: Kids will enjoy arts and crafts on the holiday themes, plus face painting, sing-alongs, and healthy snacks and refreshments.
How much: $10 per child, plus $2 per sibling.

Ezra Jack Keats Bedtime Stories
When: Thursday, December 18, 7pm
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Librarians will read a book aloud to children ages 3-7 and lead singing, rhyming, and playing activities related to the themes and images of the book. At the end of each session, every child is given a free copy of one of Keats’ books to keep.
How much: Free!

Storytime
When: Friday, December 19, 10am
Where: Postmark Cafe, 326 6th Avenue
What: A weekly storytime has returned to Postmark! Stop by every Friday for some free fun.
How much: Free, but there’s only space for 20 kids, so arrive early to ensure your spot.

A Charlie Brown Christmas
When: Saturday, December 20 & Sunday, December 21, 1pm & 4pm
Where: The Brooklyn Lyceum, 227 4th Avenue
What: This may be your last chance to see this annual tradition at the former bath house, which was recently sold at auction. It’s a sweet adaptation of the animated classic featuring a live jazz trio.
How much: Tickets are $12 each, or $40 for four.

Santa Claus Appearance On 5th Avenue
When: Saturday, December 20, 3:30-5pm
Where: Du Jour Bakery, 365 5th Avenue
What: Santa will join roaming bands of carolers from Opera On Tap to stroll along 5th Avenue, and he’ll stop to take photos with kids along the way. Santa won’t just be spreading joy, though — he’ll also have candy canes!
How much: Free!

History In Your Hands: Historic Games & Needlework
When: Saturdays and Sundays in December, 1-3pm
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: Spend a cozy afternoon at Lefferts Historic House this month making your own 9-man-morris board. Families will also have an opportunity to create a small needlework sampler to take home.
How much: $3 suggested donation.
