Playtime In Park Slope: Upcoming Children’s Events
Looking for some fun things to do with the whole family this week? From storytimes and sing-alongs to a down-home jamboree with music and BBQ, there’s a lot of cool stuff coming up through Columbus Day in the neighborhood. Details on those and more kid-friendly events:
Babies & Books
When: Wednesday, October 8, 10am & 10:30am
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Kids ages birth to 18 months and their guardians can enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes.
How much: Free, but you must pick up a ticket the morning of the program at the Children’s reference desk.
Kings Bay Y Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, October 8, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score yours.
Nature On The Go!
When: Thursdays & Fridays, 2-3pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: A naturalist leads children and families to areas near the Audubon Center to discover the flora and fauna in the park.
How much: Free!
Story Craft
When: Thursday, October 9, 3:30pm
Where: Pacific Library, 25 4th Avenue
What: Kids up to age 5 are welcome to hear a story, then make a craft.
How much: Free!
Storytime
When: Friday, October 10, 10am
Where: Postmark Cafe, 326 6th Avenue
What: A weekly storytime has returned to Postmark! Stop by every Friday for some free fun.
How much: Free, but there’s only space for 20 kids, so arrive early to ensure your spot.
Story Play
When: Saturday, October 11, 10am
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Children up to age 5 and their caregivers can enjoy stories and play with toys.
How much: Free!
Family Bird Watching Tour
When: Saturday, October 11, 10am
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Geared towards families with children ages 8 and older, the Prospect Park Alliance will help young naturalists learn how to observe and identify some of the 200 species of birds that pass through Prospect Park or make it their home.
How much: Free!
Backyard Jamboree
When: Saturday, October 11, 11am-5pm
Where: Lakeside, Prospect Park
What: Kids and grown-ups will enjoy BBQ, family-friendly music including the Grammy-nominated duo The Pop Ups, a make-your-own caramel apple stand, pumpkin decorating and photo-ready pumpkin patch, country line dancing, and more.
How much: Range of advance tickets include roller skating, food, and more, from $10-$86.
Race Around The Farmyard
When: Saturdays in October, 2-4pm
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: Get moving with the whole family in potato sack races, spoon races, stilts and other old-fashioned games!
How much: $3 suggested donation.
Sing Along With Miss Amy
When: Sunday, October 12, 10am
Where: Two Moon Art House & Cafe, 315 4th Avenue
What: Playing original and well-known songs on guitar, ukulele, and percussive things, singing stories with puppets and bubbles, Amy brings her quirky style to the sing along arena.
How much: $10
Columbus Day In Prospect Park
When: Monday, October 13, 12-5pm
Where: Various Locations, Prospect Park
What: Learn about animals and dive into nature at the Audubon Center (all free), race around the farmyard at the Lefferts Historic House ($3 suggested donation), or take a ride on the carousel ($2 per ride) on this school holiday.
