Playtime In Park Slope: Upcoming Children’s Events
The weather is getting a bit cooler, so there are more and more events for families taking place indoors — like a workshop with the artist-in-residence at the Central Library or a storytime featuring none other than the Cat in the Hat in person — but there’s still some fun stuff happening outdoors, like taking a row around the lake in the park! Details on those and more upcoming kid-friendly events:
Babies & Books
When: Wednesday, September 17, 10am & 10:30am
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Kids ages birth to 18 months and their guardians can enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes.
How much: Free, but you must pick up a ticket the morning of the program at the Children’s reference desk.
Kings Bay Y Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, September 17, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score yours.
Rolie Polie Singalong
When: Wednesday, September 17, 3:30pmam
Where: Two Moon Art House and Cafe, 315 4th Avenue
What: Join guys from kids’ favorite Rolie Polie Guacamole as they bring some great tunes that little singers love to join in on.

Book Launch: Josie And The Fourth Grade Bike Brigade
When: Wednesday, September 17, 7pm
Where: Community Bookstore, 143 7th Avenue
What: Meet the authors behind the new eco-conscious kids book, which you’ll find is set in a pretty familiar-looking neighborhood.

Free Public Rowing
When: Thursday, September 18, 4-7pm
Where: Boat ramp on Well House Drive, Prospect Park
What: Take the kids for a boat ride around the Prospect Park Lake! The Prospect Park Alliance and the Village Community Boathouse are teaming up to make rowing accessible to all on select dates this summer, so paddle on over.

Explore & Create: Arts And Crafts
When: Friday, September 19, 4pm
Where: Pacific Library, 25 4th Avenue
What: A weekly, free drop-in program where kids and teens can roll up their sleeves and explore their artistic side.

Blue Lightning Concert
When: Saturday, September 20, 11am
Where: Norman & Jules,158 7th Avenue
What: Looking for a fun way to groove with the whole family? Check out this super rock group, made up of some of our young and talented neighbors!
How much: $12 per child.
Transforming Food: Hearth Cooking
When: Saturdays & Sundays in September, 2-4pm
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: Roll up your sleeves and explore cooking the old fashioned way. Families can look forward to making popcorn with fresh herb butter, apple pies on a rotating basis, churning butter, grinding corn, and pealing apples.
How much: $3 suggested donation.
Art Workshop With Steve Keene
When: Saturday, September 20, 3pm
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Kids can collaborate with and learn from BPL’s artist-in-residence Steve Keene, a painter who you may have seen at work in front of the library throughout the summer. Appropriate for kids ages 8-14, and materials will be provided.

Storytime With Cat In The Hat
When: Sunday, September 21, 2pm
Where: Barnes & Noble, 267 7th Avenue
What: So not only will you get to hear the story of the Cat in the Hat, but the very same Cat in the Hat will be attending the storytime!
