Playtime In Park Slope: Upcoming Children’s Events


As summer winds to a close, be sure to embrace all you can outdoors with the whole family this week! It’s the kids’ last chance to ride the Prospect Park Carousel for free, Rolie Polie Guacamole are rocking out, and there are historic games to play. Details on those and more upcoming kid-friendly events:

Game On!
When: Wednesday, August 27, 10am
Where: Pacific Library, 25 4th Avenue
What: Kids can head to the library to try out some board games.
How much: Free!

Free Carousel Rides
When: Every Thursday in August, 12-6pm
Where: Prospect Park
What: Who doesn’t love a ride on the Prospect Park Carousel?! Every Thursday afternoon throughout the month of August, kids 12 and under are invited to hop on for free. Note that children must be accompanied by an adult.
How much: Free!

End Of Summer Party With Rolie Polie Guacamole
When: Thursday, August 28, 2pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Come out and shake your groove thing with Rolie Polie Guacamole as they celebrate the end of summer with neighborhood kids.
How much: Free.

Summer Science Club
When: Thursday, August 28, 2:30pm
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Kids ages 6-12 will enjoy some science activities at the library.
How much: Free!

Ezra Jack Keats Bedtime Stories
When: Thursday, August 28, 7pm
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Librarians will read a book aloud to children ages 3-7 and lead singing, rhyming, and playing activities related to the themes and images of the book. At the end of each session, every child is given a free copy of one of Keats’ books to keep.

Animal Encounter
When: Friday, August 29, 3-4pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Want to learn more about the animals at Prospect Park’s Audubon Center? Whether getting to know Snappy the Turtle, watching a snake eat a mouse, or actually taking part in a feeding, kids are sure to have an absolute blast.
How much: Free.

History In Your Hands: Historic Games
When: Saturdays & Sundays in August, 2-4pm
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: Have the kids ever played 9-Man Morris? Well, they’ll learn how by making their own board, which they can take home to continue playing.
How much: $3 suggested donation.

Labor Day In Prospect Park
When: Monday, September 1, 12-6pm
Where: Prospect Park
What: There’s fun stuff happening in the park! Activities at the Audubon Center and the Lefferts Historic House, and the carousel will be open as well.
How much: Free!
