Playtime In Park Slope: Upcoming Children’s Events


Looking for something fun to do with the whole family this week? Build some simple machines at the library, celebrate all things Frozen, row a boat in the Prospect Park Lake, and hear a story while you shop for fruits and veggies! Details on those and more upcoming kid-friendly events:

Story Play
When: Wednesday, July 30, 1:30pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Bring the family out to the library on Wednesday afternoon for stories, games, and fun with friends. Geared toward children ages birth to 3 years.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score your ticket.

Summer Science Club: Build With K’NEX
When: Thursday, July 31, 3pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: The Institute of Museum and Library Services is teaching kids ages 8 and up all about simple machines, motion and engineering on Thursday, as the group constructs a building project.
How much: Free!

Frozen Friday: Cool Off With Olaf!
When: Friday, August 1, 2-8pm
Where: Barnes & Noble, 267 7th Avenue
What: We know your kids can’t stop singing Let It Go, so here’s a chance for them to get a bit of it out. C

elebrate the animated hit Frozen with children’s activities throughout the day starting at 2pm, ending with a sing-along (we’re guessing we know which song will get this crowd going) at 7pm.

Greenmarket Storytime
When: Saturday, August 2, 10am-12pm
Where: Under the cherry tree next to the Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket
What: Enjoy stories and activities with your fruits and veggies after you’ve done a little shopping. Bring a blanket or chair to sit on.
How much: Free!

Free Public Rowing
When: Saturday, August 2, 12-4pm
Where: Boat ramp on Well House Drive, Prospect Park
What: Take the kids for a boat ride around the Prospect Park Lake! The Prospect Park Alliance and the Village Community Boathouse are teaming up to make rowing accessible to all on select dates this summer, so paddle on over.
How much: Free!

History in Your Hands: Historic Games
When: Saturdays & Sundays in August, 2-4pm
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: Have the kids ever played 9-Man Morris? Well, they’ll learn how by making their own board, which they can take home to continue playing.
How much: $3 suggested donation.

Wash Day
When: Sunday, August 3, 1-4pm
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: If you can’t get the kids to help with the laundry at home, maybe showing them how it was done in the old days — without electricity — will help them get into it. Good, clean fun indeed!
How much: $3 suggested donation.
