Playtime In Park Slope: Upcoming Children’s Events
Looking for something fun to do with the kids this week? From a big puppet street party, a performance to by a guitarist who likes to rock, to a chance to build rubber band cars, there’s a lot of fun stuff to do in the neighborhood. Details on those and more upcoming events:
Kings Bay Y Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, June 25, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score your ticket.
Explore & Create: Lego
When: Thursday, June 26, 3:30-5pm
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Kids are invited to come build Legos at the library with their friends!
How much: Free!
Hands-On Learning: Rubber Band Cars
When: Friday, June 27, 2pm
Where: Barnes & Noble, 267 7th Avenue
What: Kids ages 7 and up will learn about physics by building their own speeding race car! They’ll make and experiment with a wind-up toy car using a rubber band, gears, wheels, and a simple frame.
How much: Free, but space is limited; call the store at 718-832-9066 for more information or to sign up.
Story Play
When: Saturday, June 28, 10am
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Children ages birth to five years and their caregivers are invited to listen to stories and play with toys.
How much: Free!
Puppetry Arts Festival Of Brooklyn
When: Saturday, June 28, 11am-3pm
Where: 4th Street at 5th Avenue
What: Local theater Puppetry Arts New York hosts its super fun day filled with puppet shows, performances, sing-alongs, a bounce house, a 15-foot walking T-Rex, and more.
How much: Free, though some activities will have a fee, with all proceeds going to support free cultural programs in area schools and youth shelters.
Free Public Rowing
When: Saturday, June 28, 12-4pm
Where: Boat ramp on Well House Drive, Prospect Park
What: Take the kids for a boat ride around the Prospect Park Lake! The Prospect Park Alliance and the Village Community Boathouse are teaming up to make rowing accessible to all on select dates this summer, so paddle on over.
How much: Free!
History In Your Hands: Flax To Linen
When: Saturday, June 28 & Sunday, June 29, 2-4pm (repeats Saturdays & Sundays in June)
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: This is your last weekend to check on their flax crop and try out tools used to process flax fibers into linen cloth — feel different pieces of linen cloth to compare the weaves, and try on some linen reproduction clothes for a fun photo-op in their farm wagon!
How much: $3 suggested donation.
