Playtime In Park Slope: Upcoming Children’s Events


Looking for something fun to do with the kids this week? Our local library is kicking off summer reading with some fun activities, a new event space is opening with a family-friendly concert, and there’s a chance to learn how flax turns into fabric. Details on those and more events in the area:

Summer Reading Kick-Off!
When: Thursday, June 5, 2-5pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Sign up for the Summer Reading program and enjoy some fun activities! This summer, you can: Get a Robot Engineer gameboard for children, grab a citywide Summer Reading booklist for children and teens, take the Summer Reading Challenge for teens and adults, be a part of our online reading community at SummerReading.org, and check out free programs, games, contests, prize drawings, and more!

Story Craft
When: Thursday, June 5, 3:30pm
Where: Pacific Library, 25 4th Avenue
What: Kids up to age 5 are welcome to hear a story, then make a craft.
How much: Free!

Blooming Naturalists
When: Friday, June 6, 1-2m
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Using fun games and activities, kids will learn what makes birds so special in this introduction to birdwatching series.
How much: Free!

Sigma Storytime
When: Saturday, June 7, 12pm
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Volunteers from the Brooklyn Alumni Chapter of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity read stories to children ages 3-8.
How much: Free!

History In Your Hands: Flax To Linen
When: Saturday, June 7, 2-4pm (repeats Saturdays & Sundays in June)
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: Check on their flax crop and try out tools used to process flax fibers into linen cloth — feel different pieces of linen cloth to compare the weaves, and try on some linen reproduction clothes for a fun photo-op in their farm wagon!
How much: $3 suggested donation

Suzi Shelton Concert
When: Sunday, June 8, 11am
Where: Norman & Jules, 158 7th Avenue
What: The toy store is celebrating the opening of its backyard event space this weekend, and their first live musical event will be from this favorite local children’s performer.
How much: Tickets are $15 per child, available at the store on the day of the show.
