Pitch In To Help Our Neighbors

CAMBA volunteers

Every November we have been asking you, our readers, to open your hearts and your wallets and to give as much as you can to help those less fortunate in Brooklyn.

This year, as for the last 6 years, we are raising money for CAMBA’s Beyond Hunger Emergency Food Pantry in Flatbush through the 500 Holiday Meals for 500 Families campaign. In past years, through your generosity, we have raised over $10,000, and we hope to exceed that number. We have until Thanksgiving to do so.

Food insecurity remains high in Brooklyn, with an estimated one in 5 kids going to bed hungry. Elderly residents depend on food pantries – often after paying for the rent and medical bills, they have not enough left over for food. While food pantries these days have lines that stretch around the corner on distribution days, CAMBA’s Food Pantry functions more like a free grocery, where clients get to choose individual food items rather than receiving pre-packed bags, as they would at traditional pantries. The pantry distributes a three-day supply of nutritional food to over 4,300 neighbors each month.

There are many incredible organizations, doing good work, and as we raise funds and awareness this month – we hope to tell you about many more. But there is little one can think about other than food and shelter, when one has neither, so we want to help with the basics first.

We hope you will help us help those less fortunate than ourselves. You can donate here, and any amount will be greatly appreciated (and your contributions are 100% tax-deductible).
