Piper Theatre Workshop Takes the Stage at Old Stone House

Like this, but younger.

Xanadu is closed. Shakespeare in the Park’s production of Into the Woods (ah, that Shakespearian classic!) is delayed. But thanks to the students of Piper Theatre’s summer workshops, we’ve got al fresco theater to spare this week at Old Stone House, weather be damned. And while it’s totally possible that I’m just a sentimental sucker for youth theater, I’m going to argue that there’s something singularly electrifying (see also: raw, vulnerable, fun…) about teens making life happen onstage. Also, it’s way closer than Central Park:

Wednesday, July 25

At 7pm, young actors from the Piper Theatre Workshop (ages 11-14) present “James and the Giant Peach,” a theatrical adaptation of the Raoul Dahl classic.

Then, at 8:30, Piper’s film students (ages 13-17) take the stage screen, premiering the fruits of their summer labors.

Thursday, July 26
At 7pm, (more) young actors from the Piper Theatre Workshop (ages 11-14) perform “Pinocchio.”

At 8:30, the slightly-less-young young actors from Piper’s Advanced Theatre Workshop  (ages 14-17) present a highly physical adaptation of Gogol’s “The Government Inspector.”

Friday, July 27

At 7pm, (even more) young actors from the Piper Theatre Workshop (ages 11-14) perform Shakespeare’s “The Winter’s Tale.”

Finally at 8:30, it’s time to get your Tradition! on: Piper Musical Project (ages 13-17) closes down the mini-festival with “Fiddler on the Roof.”
