Photos: Three Car Accident On Coney Island Ave
A three-car accident on Coney Island Avenue and Avenue Y didn’t leave anyone injured, but it did cause traffic backups in all directions.
The accident happened at around 1:40 p.m., when a Toyota RAV4 allegedly jumped the light at Avenue Y, according to one of the drivers in the accident. The RAV4 driver attempted a left, to head south on Coney Island Avenue, as the north-south light was still yellow. The Hyundai Azera was slowing for the yellow light and managed to stop just before hitting him, but a southbound Mercedes G500 behind him failed to stop in time, slamming into his rear and knocking him into the Toyota.
Private EMTs showed up minutes later, but found no one in need of their services.
“We had our seat belts on, thank God,” said Joseph Kanabrocki, the driver of the Hyundai.
Traffic, however, did take a hit. Cars were backed up as far east as East 14th Street as they slowly attempted to maneuver around – and rubberneck – at the accident, which occurred right in the middle of the intersection. Vehicles heading towards the intersection from other directions were backed up several blocks as well.
