Photos From Local Campers' Street Arts Fest

This morning in the PS 139 schoolyard, campers from FDC and CAMBA took part in a Street Arts Fest featuring song, dance, and poetry. The celebration was well attended by campers, their parents, and siblings alike.

FDC counselors got campers ready to show off their skills, challenging them to beatbox, sing, and rap for their peers.

Ashley, above in grey, squared off against a counselor twice her size, and showed exactly whose pipes were bigger. After a verse of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep,” the rest of the campers and staff couldn’t help but clap and sing along.

Rodney, in grey, took the rapping challenge against the same counselor. You can probably guess from said counselor’s expression who came out on top there.

After those bold enough to take on their counselors collected prizes, campers from FDC’s theatre program read a collaborative poem about the impact of racism in 2013…

… after which campers from the dance program performed…

… followed by several campers in hoodies, who sang a song they’d written about violence–a tribute to Trayvon Martin.

Even the signs for the event were like little artworks of their own.

It seems like it’s been a season full of creative expression and hard (fun) work so far. Here’s to the rest of the summer!
