Photo: Power Lines “Explode” On Nostrand Avenue

Firefighters responded to the scene of what appears to be a downed power line on Nostrand Avenue near Avenue Y shortly before noon today, in an incident that left the area stinking like burned rubber.

“It sounded like a small explosion,” said tipster Nick Rosen, who was in the area when the incident occurred.

According to an employee of nearby Home & Style, a city electrical unit malfunctioned, possibly causing a small fire. Firefighters responded to the scene and secured it before anyone was harmed.

The Home & Style employee, who was in the store at the time, said he did not lose power and that everything appears to be okay.

“It smells like something’s wrong. Burned or something like that,” noted the employee.
