Photo Flashback: Skating In Prospect Park
With The LeFrak Center opening on Friday, we thought it would be a great time to look for some historic photos of Prospect Park skaters.
Like this fantastic scene, taken sometime in the 1870s of a woman being pushed around in a skating chair. How cool is that?? We totally want a skating chair!
Or this one, taken in 1954 behind the Boathouse. A caption on the Brooklyn Public Library’s website notes that this was the first time in five years that the ice was thick enough for Brooklynites to safely skate.
Do you remember the cool rush of gliding across the ice in Prospect Park? Have any old photographs? Email them to editor@bklyner.com, and we’ll add them to the story.
