Pet Spotlight: Bix the Mix

We met Bix on a cold winter walk in Fort Greene Park with his owner, David Tompkins.

Bix and Tompkins moved from West Texas about two years ago and have been living in Fort Greene for the past year and a half. Tompkins adopted Bix, now age 11, from a shelter in Texas when he was about five months old.

“There’s probably some greyhound in there,” Tompkins said. “That seems to be the common consensus.”

Bix can handle the cold as long as he’s wearing his “tattered” red coat, Tompkins said. When there’s snow on the ground, he wears little purple booties on his feet. “He looks like a full-on New York dog,” Tompkins said.

“He’s a pretty high-strung dog,” Tompkins said. “Around new people, he’ll get his bone and dump it in the middle of the conversation and loudly chew on it. That’s how he acclimatizes himself to people.”
