Permanent Records To Open In BrooklynWorks At 159

Exciting news for music fans: Permanent Records, the Greenpoint record store that recently lost its lease, will be opening a new space inside of BrooklynWorks at 159, the co-working space that’s a bit over a year old. According to their website, they’re aiming to open the shop on October 1.

Gothamist spoke with Permanent Records manager Matthew Milligan, who says that as they’ll be the only commercial retailer in the space, they’ll have their own space and their own hours.

“It’s a little hard to describe and a bit unconventional, but we’re confident people won’t be disappointed,” he told them.

Initially located on the second and third floors of 159 20th Street (between 3rd and 4th Avenues), Brooklyn Works recently expanded to the first floor of the building, opening up 11,000-square-feet of available workspace, so there’s a lot of possible space for record store to set up shop.

In recent years, both Gothamist and Time Out New York have named Permanent Records one of the top record stores in the city.

The shop will be joining our other local record store, Music Matters, and will be coming in just as another, the Fifth Avenue Record and Tape Center, is set to close.
