Old Fashioned Payphone on Church Ave

Payphones proved useful during the wake Superstorm Sandy.

Wireless and electrical service, post Sandy, was spotty rendering modern mobile devices useless. People waited online 6 deep to use public payphones after the storm.

The mayor plans to reinvent the payphone, updating it from push button to touch screen and adding features like cell phone charging and web surfing capability. There is no timeline for updated public payphones to reach the outer boroughs.

This old fashioned payphone, on the corner of Church Ave and E2nd Street, costs .25 for 6 minutes.
