Park Slope Weekend Events Spotlight: June 25-28
There are plenty of fun things to do in Park Slope this weekend! You can mingle with local artists, watch Paris Is Burning in the park, go to a roller disco at the LeFrak Center, pick up some curiosities at the Morbid Anatomy Flea Market and more! There’s something for everyone.

A Celebration of Richard Weiner’s The Game For Real
When: Thursday, June 25, 7pm
Where: Community Bookstore, 143 7th Avenue
What: Richard Weiner’s strange and powerful diptych, The Game for Real, finally makes its English-language debut, bringing to American readers the highly original work of the Czech modernist often compared to Kafka. In the first novella, an unnamed hero discovers he has a double and that his double has a double and so on down the rabbit hole in what becomes a hilarious Parisian spree. In the second, a man is slapped and will stop at nothing to return the insult, even if it means attacking himself. Translator Benjamin Paloff will be joined by Alex Zucker to discuss Weiner’s complex, mystifying fictions.

Artist Mingle
When: Thursday, June 25, 7pm
Where: Littlefield, 622 Degraw Street
What: Artist Mingle is a national tour brought to you to educate and provide entertainment for artists across the country. Everyone, from newcomers to established musicians are encouraged to attend. We will be choosing 5 performers to be showcased as spotlight artists of the night and will have a performance spot for all of their fans and new ones alike. All proceeds collected will go to funding this grassroots project.

Celebrate Brooklyn!: Paris Is Burning
When: Friday, June 26, 7:30-10:30pm
Where: Prospect Park Bandshell, Prospect Park West at 9th Street
What: On Friday, the Bandshell shines a light on Harlem drag balls of the 1980s, with a screening of Jennie Livingston’s Sundance Grand Jury Prize-winning documentary, Paris is Burning.
How much: Free.
Lola Star’s Dreamland Roller Disco
When: Friday, June 26, 7:30pm
Where: LeFrak Center, Lakeside
What: Get jiggy wit it this Friday at Lakeside, where Dreamland Roller Disco is all about those glorious pop hits of the ’90s. Note that admission is restricted to guests ages 21 and older. For more information, or to buy tickets in advance, visit the Dreamland website.

Doll Parts Plays Blue Smoke
When: Friday, June 26, 7:30pm
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: Need some classic country in your life? Brooklyn’s premiere Dolly Parton Cover Band plays hits from their latest and 42nd studio album, Blue Smoke. Also playing: Alan Lee & the Whiskey Bumps, Two of us, Calcuttabitch.

Choreography As An Infrastructure
When: Saturday, June 27, 4pm
Where: Garden of Union, Union Street between 4th and 5th Avenues
What: Stormy Budwig performs this new, site specific work as a part of Spoke the Hub’s Local Produce. It is a response to our research on a) being human, b) articulating ourselves in a normative society, c) living with complexity, and d) the infinite qualities of nature.

50 Years of Jonathan Blum, Opening Party
When: Saturday, June 27, 7pm
Where: ShapeShifter Lab, 18 Whitewell Place between 1st and Carroll Streets
What: Local artist Jonathan Blum celebrates his 50th birthday with a retrospective on his art. This huge public party features performances by Sway Machinery, Mil’s Trills, and Michael Bates’ Northern Spy. All ages are welcome. The exhibition will be up until August 12th.

Morbid Anatomy Flea Market
When: Sunday, June 28, 12-6pm
Where: Morbid Anatomy Museum, 424-A 3rd Avenue
What: Antique hunters and curiosity collectors know than nothing is better than a lazy Sunday spent at a great flea market; at this one, you’ll find all of your favorite artists, makers and antique peddlers. The Flea Market includes multiple vendors selling taxidermy galore, artful bones, unusual antiques, obscure books, and assorted curiosities.

Classic Interludes: Music for the Barbed Strings
When: Sunday, June 28, 3pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: “Music for barbed strings” is an attempt to bring to light and to celebrate the music of Jewish composers who lived, worked, and frequently died, under Stalinism and Nazism. The live musical performance is complimented by cinematographic and theatrical elements, providing the context and setting the mood for the music.

Improv For Poets And Geniuses
When: Sunday, June 28, 3pm
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: Artists, musicians, sculptors, DJs, fashionistas, political activists, lawyers, writers — improv can be a useful tool for any creative profession. This workshop will help you be more you, on stage, and off, whether you have never done improv before or are on top of your game.
