Park Slope Weekend Events Spotlight: August 13-16
Don’t know what to do with your weekend? There are plenty of great activities happening in the neighborhood! With everything from comedy and embarrassing stories, to uncensored vaudeville and 80s dance parties, folks in the Slope won’t have to go far for summertime entertainment. Below are some of our favorite events from around the area.

Mortified
When: Thursday, August 13, 7pm
Where: Littlefield, 622 DeGraw Street
What: Come listen to to adults tell strangers about their most embarrassing moments and reveal childhood artifacts, including journals, letters, poems, home movies and more. Hear grown men and women confront their past with tales of their first kiss, first puff, worst prom, and more.

Heavenly & Friends: An Evening of Uncensored Vaudevillian Entertainment
When: Thursday August 13, 10:15pm
Where: Threes Brewing, 333 Douglass Street
What: Hosted by “Miss Heavenly,” this evening of entertainment includes burlesque, original songs performed by Ryan Rickenbach, and performances by Sal Garcia, Stevi Incremona and Seth Andrew Miller.
How much: $10.
Lola Star’s Dreamland Roller Disco
When: Friday, August 14, 7:30pm
Where: LeFrak Center, Lakeside
What: Celebrate all that is David Bowie at Friday’s Dreamland Roller Disco, where this week’s theme is Ziggy Stardust. Note that admission is restricted to guests ages 21 and older. For more information, or to buy tickets in advance, visit the Dreamland website.
How much: $18 (includes admission and skate rental).
Cruel Summer ’80s Dance Party
When: Friday, August 14, 9pm
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street at 2nd Avenue
What: The Engagements cover band brings the ’80s dance party you’ve always wanted to The Bell House this Friday. Hear your favorites, including songs from Eurythmics, INXS, Men At Work, Cure, Michael Jackson, and more. Followed by DJ Steve Reynolds playing 80s hits all night.

Smokey’s Secret Family
When: Saturday, August 15, 10pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street
What: Smokey Hormel’s résumé reads like a history of American popular music over the decades. He has worked closely with Beck, Tom Waits and Johnny Cash. Hormel has hybridized African and Cuban music. Keeping its pre-rock roots intact, he relies on a core sound of “wild guitars bursting through small amps afloat on a sea of hand drums and shakers.”
How much: $10 (strongly) suggested donation.
Saint Florian Gowanus Pageant, Procession And Variety Show
When: Sunday, August 16, 2:30pm
Where: Morbid Anatomy Museum, 424 3rd Avenue and Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club, 514 Union Street
What: Check out the first annual pageant and procession in honor of Saint Florian, patron saint of flooding. Anyone who lives near the Gowanus Canal knows plenty about that. By reviving the lost ritual to honor Saint Florian, the Morbid Anatomy Museum hopes to draw attention to the predicament of this improbably gentrifying neighborhood. The day begins with a procession to Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club, where you can grab $4 glasses of “Gowanus Canal Juice.”

What Are You Afraid Of?
When: Sunday, August 16, 7:30pm
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: Death, commitment, sock puppets — everyone’s afraid of something. Laught at your fears as host Mara Wilson takes you through comedian and performers’ anxieties, featuring Sandi Marx, Sharron Paul, and Danny Hatch.
How much: $ 7 advance / $10 day of show.
