Don’t wait until the weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from comedic therapy on stage, a raga jam, and cocktails and dilettanti talk, there’s plenty going on in Park Slope this week. Below are some of our favorite events from around the area.

For even more things to do around Brooklyn, and to add your own upcoming events (some of which we’ll feature in this roundup in the future!), check out our calendar.

Body Utopia

Where: Trestle Gallery, 168 7th Street, between 2nd and 3rd Avenue
What: Body Utopia creates a visionary space that honors ideas and representations of the nonconforming body – a body that does not subscribe to cultural ideals, whether through size, age, disability, ethnicity, gender presentation, or “queer”, self-chosen, outlier identity. The exhibition features photography by Chitra Ganesh and Pinar Yolaçan; sculpture by Constantina Zavitsanos; painting and drawing by Clarity Haynes and Riva Lehrer; and video by Sondra Perry.
How much: Free

Brooklyn Public Philosophers: Jason Stanley on Democracy and the Demagogue
When: Tuesday, October 6, 7:00pm

Weekly Raga Jam Session
When: Wednesday, October 7, 8:30pm
Where: ShapeShifter Lab, 18 Whitwell Place (between 1st and Carroll Streets)
What: October begins BRM’s month long residency at the widely respected performance art space, Shapeshifter Lab. We kick it off with our “BRM Residency Launch Party” on Oct 7 featuring an outstanding Hindustani classical concert, followed by raga-rooted grooves from the BRM All-Stars. The rest of the month stays true to BRM’s wide-ranging offerings, with a sitar recital from a distinguished artist touring from India, a collaboration of south Indian percussion with drupad vocals and electronics, and the beautiful cross-over sounds of a Brooklyn-based Sufi singer. All featured acts are followed by the Raga Jam Session.
How much: $10.

The Dilettanti Society Happy Hour Cocktails and Show and Tell
When: Wednesday, October 7, 8pm
Where: Morbid Anatomy Museum, 424 3rd Avenue at 7th Street
What: This bi-monthly event is loosely inspired by the Dilettanti Society, a society of 18th century aristocrats and scholars eager to share their love for art and knowledge around a good drink, The Morbid Anatomy Museum is proud to open the doors of its permanent collection for a few late afternoon libations and the celebration of all things arcane and spectacular.
How much: $20 ($12 for members). Tickets are available here.
