What: Celebrating the paperback launch of the 2012 novel Telegraph Avenue, the author will engage in a conversation with Brooklyn Public Library Director of Programs and Exhibitions Meredith Walters.

The Gowanus Show Art Opening
When: Friday, October 4, 6-8:30pm
Where: Ground Floor Gallery, 343 5th Street
What: An exhibition featuring artists living and/or working in the Gowanus area (including neighbor TJ Volonis, whose work is pictured above), it’ll be on display through November 3, but why miss the opening?

Late Night Friday For Knitters & Crocheters
When: Friday, October 4, 7-9:30pm
Where: Stitch Therapy, 180 Lincoln Place
What: BYOB and crafty projects to work on while chatting with fellow stitchers, and once that repetitive motion starts to get at your joints, enjoy a chair shiatsu massage.
How much: Free to stitch, but $1 per minute of massage
Great American Book Drive at the Central Library
When: Saturday, October 5, 10am-3pm
Where: Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Drop off your used books at the library now through Saturday, when there will be a $1 book sale, live music, and crafts for kids.

Jan Pacifico Pottery: Opening Reception
When: Saturday, October 5, 7-9pm
Where: Slope Wellness, 816 8th Avenue
What: Meet artist Jan Pacifico of New Mexico and see her pottery on display as she celebrates 50 years of creating functional stoneware and crystal-glazed porcelain. Light fare and refreshments will be served.

’90s Hip-Hop and R&B Sing-Along
When: Saturday, October 5, 10:30pm (doors 10:15pm)
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: Join the singalong crowd for two hours of the best ’90s hip-hop and R&B music videos with all the lyrics on the big screen. Wear neon or flannel for the ’90s costume contest, show off your moves in the dance-off, and enjoy prizes including free drinks and tickets to upcoming shows.

Concerts on the Slope Present: Shattered Glass
When: Sunday, October 6, 3pm
Where: St. John’s Episcopal Church, 139 St Johns Place
What: Sit back and listen in a beautiful setting as the conductor-less string ensemble performs four pieces.
