There are a whole bunch of fun events coming up in the neighborhood this weekend — from a bacon cook-off and a chance to relive your homecoming dance, to a poetry event and an afternoon of making the neighborhood more beautiful. Brokelyn High Homecoming Dance
When: Thursday, October 16, 8pm
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street
What: Help Brokelyn celebrate its 5th anniversary with a night of dancing, awkward school photos, games, comedy, music, and a sweet raffle featuring hundreds of dollars in prizes from around Brooklyn!
How much: $12, available in advance.
Brooklyn Reading Works: Holiday In Reality Poetry Blast
When: Thursday, October 16, 8pm
Where: The Old Stone House, 5th Avenue between 3rd and 4th Streets
What: The 4th annual event will feature several New York poets: Edwin Torres, Morgan Parker, Julia Guez, and Pat Smith. Enjoy some readings along with drinks and snacks.
How much: $10 suggested donation.
Kings Of Karaoke

Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: You’ve got a song in your heart whether you can actually sing or not, and here’s the place to let it out.

Book Donation Drop-Off
When: Saturday, October 18, 10am-4pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: The Friends of Park Slope Library will be accepting donations for its fall fundraising sale at the library (coming up on October 25). Bring gently used books of all genres, plus they’ll accept CDs and DVDs.
Fall Civic Sweep
When: Sunday, October 19, 10am-2pm
Where: The Old Stone House, 5th Avenue between 3rd and 4th Streets
What: Volunteers will hit local blocks to sweep up litter and leaves, weed and mulch street trees, paint over graffiti, and more. Plus, get free daffodil bulbs for planting in public places, and enjoy live music and treats!
How much: Free!
Electronics Recycling
When: Sunday, October 19, 10am-4pm
Where: 5th Avenue between 3rd and 4th Streets
What: Toss your old electronics responsibly at the e-waste recycling event from the Lower East Side Ecology Center, which is happening as part of the Fall Civic Sweep.
How much: Free!
Food Truck Rally
When: Sunday, October 19, 11am-5pm
Where: Grand Army Plaza
What: It’s the last food truck rally of the season! Bring your appetite to Grand Army Plaza before they’re gone.
Bark Avenue Adopt-A-Thon
When: Sunday, October 19, 1-5pm
Where: The Old Stone House, 5th Avenue between 3rd and 4th Streets
What: Meet some pets that are available for adoption! Plus there will be trainers, dog sitters and walkers, educational activities, a free fall-themed photo booth, and raffles.

Brooklyn Bacon Takedown
When: Sunday, October 19, 2pm
Where: Littlefield, 622 Degraw Street
What: You know this had to happen eventually: Taste works of bacon cooking art at this amateur food competition.
How much: $20, tickets available in advance.
