Park Slope Planner: The Best Events November 8-11
With so much to do in Park Slope each weekend, we’ve made it easy to schedule your calendar. And with so much damage in NYC since last week, there are still plenty of ways to get out and help – whether you’re directly addressing the needs of Sandy victims, heading to a benefit, or just boosting our local businesses who may have seen some loses as well.
Thursday, November 8• After you drop off donations at the Armory and gather up gently used, clean coats to donate at PS 321 tomorrow, stop by Uncle Barry’s to wish them a happy birthday and enjoy a $1 shot of Jameson.
Friday, November 9• The Red Hook Initiative needs volunteers from 10am-6:30pm to deliver warm lunches and dinner to home-bound residents. Meet at 767 Hicks Street in Red Hook, corner of West 9th, and email volunteers@rhicenter.org to let them know what time you are able to volunteer.
• The second annual Lights! Camera! Auction at The Bell House at 7pm will not only benefit the terrific Film Biz Recycling, but 10% of the proceeds will go to the Red Hook Initiative. Film Biz has been doing a lot since the hurricane to help their neighbors, so this is a great time to help them, and to help them help more people.
• Loki Lounge is hosting a Sandy relief benefit from 9pm-midnight, with 100% of the proceeds going to City Harvest. $50 gets you all the drinks you can drink, and $100 gets you that plus a three-course dinner at Benchmark.
Saturday, November 10• Two Boots is yet another local business that has been going above and beyond to help those in need after the hurricane. They will continue to collect and deliver donations throughout the weekend. You can drop off items (here’s what’s most needed) at the restaurant at 512 2nd St, between 7th and 8th Aves, and if you’d like to volunteer to prepare food, drive donations, or deliver them up several flights of stairs, call 718-499-3252.
Sunday, November 11• Congregation Beth Elohim continues to be a great source for neighbors looking to volunteer to help Sandy victims. Check their Facebook page for updated information on what is needed.
• After losing 319 trees and seeing hundreds of others damaged, Prospect Park could use your help now more than ever. The Prospect Park Anniversary Ball and After-Party, scheduled before the hurricane, are still on, and will be a fun way to donate, and then celebrate, the Park. If you can’t make it, consider making a donation to the Prospect Park Alliance online.
