Hello Thursday! Unlike last night and all that rain, it’s really nice out tonight, so get a head start on the weekend with some fun events today — including Nickel Creek playing in Prospect Park — and then get ready for more block parties, a performance of Hair, and so many other cool things. King Of Sideshow
When: Thursday, July 24, 7:30pm
Where: The Rock Shop, 294 4th Avenue
What: Join the celebration of the new book, Ward Hall — King of the Sideshow!, at this party from HuffPost Weird News and The Morbid Anatomy Museum. Legendary sideshow impresario Ward Hall and author Tim O’Brien will be on hand, along with fire eaters, sword swallowers, and other wonderful sideshow freaks. Get a book signed, enjoy a free drink, see some chainsaw juggling — can’t think of a better way to spend a Thursday.

Celebrate Brooklyn: Nickel Creek And Secret Sisters
When: Thursday, July 24, 7:30pm
Where: Prospect Park Bandshell, 9th Street/Prospect Park West entrance
What: For the first time in seven years, the bluegrass trio Nickel Creek is back with a new album and a tour that stops right here at Celebrate Brooklyn on Thursday. Joining in the festivities are Alabama duo Secret Sisters, who Rolling Stone says “will take [you]back to a time when vocalists valued purity over production.”
How much: $3 suggested donation.

South Slope Summer Stroll
When: Friday, July 25, 5-9pm
Where: 5th Avenue, between 12th and 18th Streets
What: Ready for week 2 of the South Slope Summer Stroll? Once again, the Park Slope Fifth Avenue BID will transform busy Fifth Avenue into a giant block party, with live music, a climbing wall, vintage cars, fun and games from Puppetry Arts, face painting, food, drinks, an open hydrant at Prospect Avenue and 5th, a performance of Romeo and Juliet, and more. Worth the walk down the Slope.

Celebrate Brooklyn: Amandla: A Revolution In Four-Part Harmony/Neo Muyanga & William Kentridge’s Second-Hand Reading
When: Friday, July 25, 7:30pm
Where: Prospect Park Bandshell, 9th Street and Prospect Park West
What: In honor of the 20th anniversary of the fall of South Africa’s apartheid regime, Celebrate Brooklyn presents the documentary, Amandla: A Revolution In Four-Part Harmony, which explores the “role music played in the forging of the modern nation.” Also featured, is South African composer Neo Muyanga, and his score to artist William Kentridge’s short film Second-hand Reading.
How much: $3 suggested donation.

Hair
When: Friday, July 25, 8:30pm & Saturday, July 26, 8:30pm
Where: The Old Stone House, 3rd Street between 4th & 5th Avenues
What: Students in the 7th-10th grades from a Piper Theatre summer workshop will present a performance of the radical ’60s musical.
How much: Free!

Laura’s Lemonade Stand Fundraiser
When: Saturday, July 26, 11am-3pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Local 11-year-old Laura Sternbach is a big fan or reading (see her summer book recommendations here), and a bigger fan of our library. She’s organized a sale for its Friends Group, so stop by to snack on a cookie and some lemonade and score a children’s book — the proceeds from the sale will go toward programs at the library.
How much: Cookies $1 each; kid size lemonade 50 cents and adult size $1; books various proces.

7th Avenue Summer Stroll
When: Saturday, July 26, 12-5pm
Where: 7th Avenue from 9th-16th Streets
What: Can’t make it out on Friday night to enjoy a giant neighborhood block party? Not to worry, there’s another chance to stroll on Saturday afternoon!

Amadeus
When: Saturday, July 26, 5pm
Where: The Old Stone House, 3rd Street between 4th & 5th Avenues
What: Students in the 9th-11th grades from a Piper Theatre summer workshop will present a performance of the dramatic tale of composer Antonio Salieri’s rivalry with Mozart.

Hands-On Film
When: Saturday, July 26, 7pm
Where: The Old Stone House, 3rd Street between 4th & 5th Avenues
What: Students in the 7th-10th grades from a Piper Theatre summer workshop will present the digital films they wrote, acted in, shot, and edited.

Movie Screening: Tarzan Triumphs

Where: GreenSpace @ President Street, corner of 5th Ave & President
What: Enjoy a movie outdoors in the garden! The 1943 adventure pits the king of the apes against the Nazis, who kidnap Boy — which is enough to set off an otherwise pacifist Tarzan.

Open Mic
When: Sunday, July 27, 8pm
Where: Tea Lounge, 837 Union Street
What: Looking for a low-pressure place to try out some new songs or other pieces? Tea Lounge promises “a great relaxed environment with zero judgment perfect for beginners.”
