Put on a few extra layers and get out and about in the neighborhood, where we’re got a lot of great events coming up this weekend, from free stand-up to a performance by burlesque legends to Andrew W.K. talking science. Details on those, and more:
Pacific Stand-up
When: Thursday, January 8, 8pm
Where: Pacific Standard, 82 4th Avenue
What: Your cheeks are gonna freeze tonight if you don’t work them out somehow. May we suggest warming them with drinks and laughs? The lineup for the first stand-up night of 2015 at the bar features comedians Jessica Williams (The Daily Show), Seaton Smith (Mulaney), Sabrina Jalees (Comedy Central), Chris Duffy (You’re the Expert), and Jo Firestone (Punderdome), and is hosted by Emmy Blotnick (Comedy Central) and Matt Koff (Car Talk).

Shape Up NYC: Cardio Toning
When: Friday, January 9, 11am
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: How’s the New Year’s resolution to get in shape going? Need some free motivation? Check out this cardio class that combines strength, balance, and toning exercises. No reservation is required, but it’s recommended that you bring a workout mat.
How much: Free!
Brooklyn Air
When: Friday, January 9, 7:30pm
Where: Whole Foods Brooklyn, 3rd Avenue at 3rd Street
What: This combination sketch comedy/variety show promises that “you’ll sample something delicious, laugh, and hear great music.”

MulchFest
When: Saturday, January 10 & Sunday, January 11, 10am-2pm
Where: Closest locations are Prospect Park at 3rd Street & Prospect Park West and Park Circle entrance at Prospect Park Southwest & Parkside Avenues; and Gowanus Canal Conservancy Salt Lot at 2nd Avenue & 5th Street.
What: Bring your holiday tree to one of the many locations of the annual MulchFest, where they’ll turn it into mulch for healthy ground cover. At some locations (including Prospect Park), you can bring a bag and take some mulch home for your own yard or garden. Remember to remove all lights, ornaments, and netting before dropping off your tree!
“Passionaries” Paperback Book Launch
When: Saturday, January 10, 4-6pm
Where: Morbid Anatomy Museum, 424 3rd Avenue
What: Join author and Morbid Anatomy Museum founding board member Tonya Hurley for an exclusive signing of her second book in “The Blessed” trilogy. And since the book is about Cecelia, “a.k.a. the patron saint of music,” the event will also feature a variety of music-themed giveaways, including a raffle for a signed copy of the Arcade Fire album Reflektor.

Legends Of Burlesque Calendar Show
When: Saturday, January 10, 9pm
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street
What: Help some burlesque legends get to the Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas for its annual weekend competition and celebration! All proceeds will be donated to the Hall of Fame to help them get there, but you’re not just donating — you’ll also get to enjoy a show, of course, and it promises to be a good one, as current burlesque performers will share the stage with living legend Judith Stein.

Fourth Avenue Holiday Tree Drag
When: Sunday, January 11, 9-10:30am
Where: Corners of 4th Ave at 12th, 8th, Union, Sackett, Degraw, Butler, Baltic, St Marks, and Pacific
What: Haul your Christmas tree out to a corner of 4th Avenue, preferably near a hydrant, so it’s easier for the vehicles from the Gowanus Canal Conservancy and their pro bono arborists to stop and pick them up, which they’ll start at 10:30am. They’ll bring the trees to the GCC Salt Lot for chipping for mulch, ensuring our neighborhood has lots and lots for local trees and gardens!
Mind Warriors
When: Sunday, January 11, 8pm
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: Greg Barris delves into the spiritual and scientific research and practices of his guests for this comedic, science interview show. And boy do we want to know the spiritual and scientific research and practices of his guest for this show: Andrew W.K.!
How much: $10 in advance, $12 day of show.
