It’s going to be a busy weekend in the area if you like art, comedy, or local history! There are a couple of exhibition openings, the Brooklyn Comedy Festival is underway, and as for honoring the Battle of Brooklyn, think walking tours with or without beer. Details on those events and more below.

Opening Party: Food For Thought
When: Thursday, August 21, 6-9pm
Where: 440 Gallery, 440 6th Avenue
What: The annual summer theme show, Food for Thought, rounds up food-inspired work by 26 artists.

Brooklyn Comedy Festival @ The Rock Shop
When: Thursday, August 21, 8pm
Where: The Rock Shop, 249 4th Avenue
What: The Brooklyn Comedy Festival is underway, and there’s some great stuff to see around the borough. This show features Astronaut Theatre, G.U.S., Higgins, Moriarty, Emmy Blotnick, and Jim Tews.

Summer Strolls
When: Friday, August 22, 5-9pm
Where: 5th Avenue between Dean and Sterling
What: Lots of family-friendly fun to be had along 5th Avenue during this big neighborhood block party on Friday evening! Check out games, play in an open fire hydrant, enjoy food and drinks, and more.
How much: Free!
Opening Reception: Miserable Creatures
When: Friday, August 22, 6-8pm
Where: Two Moon Art House & Cafe, 315 4th Avenue
What: Check out the work of artist Benjamin Martins, who does some amazing things with watercolors.

Battle Of Brooklyn Pub Crawl
When: Saturday, August 23, 2pm
Where: Meet at Mary’s Bar, 708 5th Avenue, or catch up at another Slope bar
What: Historian Connor Gaudet will lead a tour and discuss some of the history of the battle, with stops at Quarter Bar, Brooklyn Pub, Greenwood Park, Black Horse Pub, Der Kommisar, Skylark, The Gate, and finally Lavender Lake.
How much: Free — bring cash for beer, though!
Battle Of Brooklyn Neighborhood Walk
When: Saturday, August 23, 4pm
Where: Meet at Grand Army Plaza entrance to Prospect Park, NW corner.
What: Old Stone House Board Member and Hunter College Archaeology Professor William J. Parry will lead a tour through the Battle past of Prospect Park and Park Slope. Wear comfortable shoes!
How much: $12, or $10 for OSH members, tickets available in advance.
Battle Of Brooklyn Monument Tour
When: Sunday, August 24, 1pm
Where: Meets at Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: Hear a reading recounting the day of the British invasion and the destruction of the Lefferts first home, then the tour walks around the park and covers the background of the battle. Finally, climb the redoubt to learn about the events of the battle itself, concluding with a brief question and answer period.
How much: Free!
Gluten-Free Takedown
When: Sunday, August 24, 2-4pm
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street
What: Taste bites of bites of foods that completely gluten-free — anything from ice cream to pizza — dished up by home chefs who are competing for the top prize, which you’ll help judge!
How much: $20, available in advance.
Open Mic
When: Sunday, August 24, 8pm
Where: Tea Lounge, 837 Union Street
What: Looking for a low-pressure place to try out some new songs or other pieces? Tea Lounge promises “a great relaxed environment with zero judgment perfect for beginners.”
