Parents, Teachers & Others To Protest Governor Cuomo’s Proposed Education Reforms Tomorrow, March 12, Outside PS 130
Not happy about Governor Andrew Cuomo’s proposed education reforms? Make your voice heard tomorrow!
Parents, teachers and other neighbors are holding a protest tomorrow, Thursday, March 12, at 8am outside PS 130 (70 Ocean Parkway) to call attention to Cuomo’s proposed budget that numerous educators have slammed for being, as PS 130 states in their flier for the protest, “an attack on our public schools.”
Cuomo’s proposed reforms, which were rejected by the New York State Assembly earlier this week, include plans to boost the number of charter schools and significantly increase the weight of students’ standardized test scores in teacher evaluations.
Such a move has been met with resentment across the state, including from local teachers and Assemblyman Jim Brennan, who represents our area.
Tomorrow, anyone is welcome to join the protest, which is one of numerous protests that are being held across the state.
“Gather to join hands with members of your school community as part of statewide events to protest the Cuomo attack on our public schools,” PS 130’s flier says.
Protesters said they hope to make their message go viral and ask that neighbors who plan on attending the event will upload their pictures to social media using the hashtag #protectourschools.
