Package Thieves Arrested in Williamsburg
WILLIAMSBURG – Police arrested two teenage package thieves who stole deliveries from the mail room of a residential building near Manhattan Ave and Meserole Street in Williamsburg earlier this month.
In the early afternoon on Thursday, September 14th, 17-year olds Kiara and Karisma Rouse gained entry to the mail room of the residential building and stole multiple packages addresses to tenants, said police.
The two girls were arrested later that same day on Boerum Street, a few blocks away, said police.
Residents of the Bed-Stuy Thompkins Houses, on Throop Avenue, the two teens were charged with burglary, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal trespass.
Police released surveillance video of the crimes, but were unable to confirm what information led to their rapid arrest.
As the holidays approach, police precincts in Northern Brooklyn have been using community meetings to warn residents about the biggest problem in their neighborhoods: package thieves.
Police say homeowners should track their packages carefully, and if they cannot be home to receive them, they should arrange with a neighbor or local business to take delivery and keep them safe on their behalf.
