Order Farm-Fresh Produce From Good Eggs Online, Pick Up At Greenwood Park

Here’s an interesting concept: Shop for in-season fruits, vegetables, and more online, knowing exactly what farms it’s all coming from, then pick it up at a neighborhood location each week. That CSA-meets-FreshDirect idea is exactly what’s happening with Good Eggs, which has added Greenwood Park (555 7th Ave) as a distribution spot.

Originally started in San Francisco, Good Eggs brought their business to Brooklyn earlier this year, and to Greenwood Park just this month. They vet their producers according to a set of criteria, and then distribute their goods to you. Unlike a CSA, where you pay ahead and get what the farmer can provide, you can pick out only the items that you want. Though, unlike a Farmers Market and more like FreshDirect, you still can’t see, touch, and smell what you’re picking.

They’ve got a pretty wide selection of items, from currently available produce like peaches, tomatoes, and eggplant, to cheese, eggs, beef, chicken (raw or roasted), stock, bread, flour, even ready-to-eat meals and dog food, for prices comparable to what you’ll find at city Greenmarkets.

You have to place your order by 11pm on the Wednesday prior to the Friday you’d like to pick up, and you have the option to shop once, or, on some items, to create a repeating order (which gets you a 5% discount — Greenwood Park also has a discount available for first-timers). And as noted, they don’t deliver directly to you — so while it’ll be a nice bonus to grab a beer with your groceries, you have to be available between 3-4pm each Friday for this to work for you.

Has anyone tried it yet? If so, what did you think?
