PARK SLOPE – After more than 30 years on the corner of 5th Avenue and Union Street, Body Reserve Gym closed its doors at the end of December.

Housed in a massive bank building built in the 1930s, the gym was owned by the Mammana family for two generations, offering an affordable exercise option to the Park Slope community.

BKLYNER has tried reaching out to the owners and will update with any info we receive regarding their plans and the future of the building located at 207 5th Avenue.

[UPDATED Tuesday, February 20 at 5pm: BKLYNER heard back from Jen Mammana Miller, one of the owners of Body Reserve Gym, and while she prefers not to discuss the “difficult decision” to close the business, she did say, “Our members were incredibly loyal and stayed with us to the very end. We are so thankful we were able to be a part of Park Slope for over 30 years.”]

Right across Union Street, Mavi Jeans has closed its storefront at 205 5th Avenue after five years. The windows are covered in brown paper and all signage has been removed aside from a small print-out stating, “Sorry we’re closed.”

Brooklyn Crepe & Juice Bar, 169 5th Avenue

A few doors north at 169 5th Avenue, the space that previously housed Brooklyn Crepe & Juice Bar may soon become a healthy eatery called Bowlz, according to a construction worker at the site Tuesday morning.

A handwritten message on the green awning directs crepe-craving customers to the business’ other location at 274 Flatbush Avenue (between St. Marks Avenue & Prospect Place).

Amla Cafe also shuttered after two and a half years serving coffee, juices, sandwiches, and acai bowls at 75A 5th Avenue. A sign posted on the door spotted a couple of weeks ago bids “farewell” to customers, thanks the landlord, and promises that “something new and exciting” is slated to open at the space in March. Stay tuned!

Park Slope neighbors looking for a new acai bowl spot can head several blocks south to 374 5th Avenue (between 5th & 6th Streets). Coming soon to the former Corner of Vermont space is Baya Bar, another healthy eatery serving açai bowls, kale bowls, cold pressed juices, and smoothies. Baya Bar already has an outpost in Bay Ridge (9417 3rd Avenue) as well as a couple in Staten Island.

Right across the street at 375A 5th Avenue, a new bar called Logan’s Run opened in February. They’ve got a jukebox and happy hour Monday through Friday from 4pm to 7pm!

And lastly, a new Korean restaurant Haenyeo is coming to the corner space at 239 5th Avenue (at Carroll Street) that was occupied by Le Pain Quotidien up until last November. Like the former cafe, Haenyeo is planning to have sidewalk seating.
