Only A Few Days Left To Suggest Project Ideas For $1M In Participatory Budgeting Funds
There’s less than four days left (through Monday, November 16) to submit an idea on the participatory budgeting (PBNYC) map for Fort Greene-Clinton Hill. The map is the second stage of brainstorming for how to spend $1 million in discretionary funds from Councilmember Laurie Cumbo’s 2016-2017 budget.
Thus far, there are suggestions for a dog run in Fort Greene Park, repaired walking paths, lights for nighttime safety and visibility at the park tennis courts, refurbishing PS 9’s auditorium, street leveling on Fulton between Vanderbilt and Carlton, a new HVAC system and repaired roof at the Willoughby Senior Center, trash cans on Park Avenue, a bike lane on Adelphi Street, and a recreational bike/skateboard park.
Only a few of these — and these — ideas can be funded, of course, and in a few months time, we’ll be asked to vote on our most preferred/highest priority projects to make reality. So get your ideas in now! Categories include public safety, schools/education, culture/community facilities, seniors, public health, parks and recreation, housing, streets and sidewalks, transit and transportation, environment, and youth.
On the plus side, this also isn’t your last chance to be a part of the PBNYC process for this year. There will be more meetings to help narrow down the idea pool before the vote next winter/spring.
And until then, Cumbo writes that:
“If you would like to follow your idea beyond the idea map to make sure that it receives the right attention, I encourage you to join us in this process by becoming a Budget Delegate. Help me help you and this district by volunteering to turn these ideas into project proposals. If you would like to learn more about how you can get involved, contact Sasha in my District Office at (718) 260-9191.”
