Now (Re)Open: Uncle Louie G’s

Is there any event more symbolic of winter’s end than the reopening of Italian ices shops?

Remember how exciting it was growing up? And then remember when you realized what a uniquely New York experience it was, as you tried for the first time to explain a frozen dessert that is neither ice cream nor shaved ice to non-residents with blank faces?

But I digress. Uncle Louie G’s is open!!

The Union Street location opened this morning with “new and old flavors” for “new and old friends.” Apparently they serve Chocolate Jelly Ring? If you need me, I’ll be working on a pint of it.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

They’ll be open 12 – 8:30 p.m. seven days a week through mid-May, and then all bets are off. Italian ices, ice cream, and shakes every day 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Can’t stop/won’t stop.

  1. Cherry Chip Explosion is my absolute favorite. After that, I am a big fan of cannolli. I am soooo happy they are open again! I live at this place during the warm weather. The ices are so good and the calories are so low. I want to run over there right now and buy some

  2. I’m dedicated to the melon ices. Cantaloupe and Honeydew all the way. Subtle but great.
