Now Closed: Napoleon Pizza

After only a few months in business, Napoleon Pizza appears to have closed its doors for good. The security gate has been down every time we’ve passed in the last several weeks, and the phone number has been disconnected.

Located at 412 5th Avenue, between 7th and 8th Streets, Napoleon opened in June 2014, serving up what you’d expect from a slice joint, from whole pies to heroes to piles of pasta. The few reviews on Yelp were largely positive, and the slices we had there were good and the service friendly, so it’s a bit of a surprise that it didn’t seem to have worked out.

It’s been a tough few years for pizzerias in this storefront — before Napoleon, the space was home to Due Fratelli pizzeria, and before that Albanese Pizza. Is this particular location just not ideal for pizza, and if so, what else do you think might work here?
