Notes From The CB14 Monthly Meeting
Community Board 14 held its monthly meeting last night at Edward R Murrow High School. The next monthly meeting will be Monday, December 9 at PS 249, and the public is welcome to attend. Here’s what happened this month:
- The board has approved, in concept, a permanent structure to be used by the Gallop NYC therapeutic riding program in Prospect Park. The structure will be an approximately 60 x 120-foot canopied riding arena near the corner of Caton Avenue and Coney Island Avenue, and the $3 million necessary for the project has already been approved by City Council. On top of the approximately 70 riders Gallop serves each week, a certain number of hours per week will be dedicated to public use. The design phase has yet to come, though, so it’s still a long way off.
- District Manager Shawn Campbell reminded neighbors to change their smoke alarm batteries, and says batteries are available at the CB14 District office (810 E 16th Street near Avenue H). If you know someone who needs a smoke detector, Shawn says to get in touch with the office (718-859-6357) and they will contact the FDNY about providing those as well.
- Board Chairman Alvin Berk took a moment to thank members Joe Basso and Joseph Dweck for their dedication to the community as heads of the Public Safety and Transportation Committees. Both Joes are stepping down as committee heads.
- The Community Board 14 office will be closed on Veterans Day and Thanksgiving.
