Notes From The CB14 Monthly Meeting

Community Board 14 held its monthly meeting last night at Edward R. Murrow High School. The next monthly meeting after the board’s summer recess will be Monday, September 9 at Edward R. Murrow High School, and the public is welcome to attend. Here’s what happened this month:

  • CB 14 is considering project recommendations from individuals and organizations for the City’s Capital and Expense budgets for the next fiscal year. Forms may be requested by emailing info@cb14brooklyn.com, and must be submitted to the District Office (810 E 16th St. near Avenue H) no later than September 6.
  • The board voted to support the Church Avenue BID‘s application for a New York Main Street grant of $250,000, which would reimburse 80% of expenses that Church Ave. merchants have incurred improving their storefronts (including exterior work like refacing, painting, and adding lights, as well as the occasional interior improvement).
  • Exciting news from the Community Environment Committee: the MTA has agreed to let Q Gardens use their property near the Church Ave. subway station as long as they have  insurance, a legal entity to execute the contract, and the financial ability to support their proposed community garden.
  • The Transportation Committee said the DOT will be on hand to discuss proposed the proposed Midwood Slow Zone at their September or October meeting.

Though the board will not have a regular monthly meeting for the duration of the summer, they will be holding their Annual Reception at the District Office (see address above) on Wednesday, June 19 from 6-9pm.

All are invited to welcome new board members and recognize the achievements of our local public servants and community leaders, and refreshments will be served. RSVP to the event at 718-859-6357 or by emailing info@cb14brooklyn.com.
