No More Clothing Needed at John Jay, Donations Accepted at Levin’s Office

First, there was a Frankenstorm. Then the aftermath. Brooklynites displaced, temporarily homeless. The call went out for help.

And Park Slope responded – in a big way.  Bags of clothing poured into the evacuation center set up at John Jay High School. So many bags, in fact, that they filled a classroom. Then a second classroom. By Tuesday afternoon, five rooms were filled with clothing. And still the donations came pouring in. Finally, the inundated volunteers had to say no. Donators were turned back. Excess men’s clothing was shipped to a men’s shelter – or some of it was. The van that came was filled to capacity, unable to take everything in one trip.

So, long story short, clothing donations are no longer needed. Still helpful: people to staff the evacuation center.  They are looking for volunteers to work the rest of the week, especially those available at night.

INSTEAD: Donate clothing and non-perishable items to Steve Levin’s office, 410 Atlantic Avenue (near Bond) today from 11am-4pm. Areas of Red Hook and Gowanus have been hard hit and they will need things over the next few weeks. They will distribute items to folks who need it. Call ahead at 718-875-5200 to make sure someone is there.
