New Strip Club Ads Up On 5th Ave: Do You Care?
The Sunset Park strip club Peyton’s Playpen got Park Slope neighbors (and many media outlets) all hot and bothered this summer when they put up a billboard on 4th Avenue and President Street. It’s since been replaced, but they’ve now got ads on a pair of payphones on the corner of 5th Avenue and Garfield.
The billboard that caused the original fuss was pretty tame, basically a portrait of a pretty lady, but this new one better suggests that the place is, in fact, a strip club. On a busy stretch of 5th Avenue, there are a lot of kids walking by, particularly with MS 51 a couple blocks away. But again, Union Hall and Bell House both host popular burlesque nights, and our South Slope neighbor Lucky 13 Saloon has its go-go dancers, so it’s not like we don’t have some skin flashing in the neighborhood — although, those don’t advertise on the corner.
So what do you think? Should a business, no matter what kind, be able to advertise where it wants to, or should residents have a voice in what shows up on their streets?
