New Post Office For Flatbush Avenue?

The USPS may be setting up shop on Flatbush Avenue — but then again, it might not.

There’s been a lot of back and forth about the Boerum Hill post office, currently located at 542 Atlantic Avenue but in need of a new space — unfortunately, the one they were eyeing on Dean Street in Prospect Heights isn’t going to work, as the Atlantic Yards Report first noted, because it’s not in the 11217 zip code as required (whoops!).

However, AYR heard from Community Board 2 that the post office would be headed to 290 Flatbush Avenue, between 7th Avenue and Prospect Place, which was home to a Chase bank that closed in November (and was, way back when, the site of a theater).

But when Brownstoner noted that info, they heard from the owner of 290 Flatbush, who said their story was incorrect and offered a “no comment” when asked if the post office had signed a lease on the space. DNAinfo seconded the cautious tone about no lease yet, as did the Brooklyn Paper, which said the post office had sent a letter in December to Borough President Eric Adams saying that building was their choice.

So maybe they’re being a bit careful after the first foul-up, but it sounds pretty likely that this is the space they’ll end up in. We’ll keep you posted (heh).
