New Map Shows Lack Of Options For Outer Borough Commuters

WNYC has confirmed what you already suspected–if you live outside of Manhattan or affluent parts of the outer boroughs, your commute will likely be long and frustrating. They note commutes have gotten longer for the less affluent during Bloomberg’s run as mayor, as people have been priced out of apartments in neighborhoods close to well-paying jobs in Manhattan. Their new interactive Transit Time map allows you to plug in your address and see where subways will get you in 10 minutes, all the way up to where it will take two hours.

Look how the yellow and light green areas layout from 100 E 16th St. in Brooklyn as opposed to the same address in Manhattan. Brooklyn’s like a block, while Manhattan shoots out in all directions, allowing commuters to get all across the city faster than us Brooklynites.

So, how does the map compare with your actual experiences? And would you say the amount of time has changed since the Cortelyou, Beverley, and Parkside closures started?
