New Map Puts Timeline To Victorian Flatbush Enclaves

Prepare to history nerd out–neighbor Michael sent us an interactive map, just released by BKLYNR’s Thomas Rhiel, that shows the approximate age of all ~32,000 buildings in Brooklyn–and you can see the distinct eras during which different parts of Victorian Flatbush were developed.

Chunks of Ditmas Park West, the Beverley Squares, and Prospect Park South show concentrations of green buildings (built circa 1850-1900), as do certain blocks backing up to the train tracks. The oldest building on the map in our area is, of course, the Flatbush Reformed Church–which has been built a few times, but was erected in its current incarnation between 1793 and 1798.

How cool is this? Play around with the map, and see when your favorite Ditmas Park homes were built.
